Shaking and shivering in the evening chill, Dwayne walked along the side of the road. His focus was blurry, but all he could think about was the drug. He needed another hit and at this point he didn't even care what he consumed as long as he could be high for the rest of evening. The last few dollars he had went towards the 8 ball of coke he split with another homeless dude. The guy ripped him off though and went running into the night. Addicts were never to be trusted. And he was left there, alone, with only the horrible, agonizing come down to look forward to. There was nothing else. No one else.

Finally, Dwayne stopped alongside the sandy Santa Carla beach. The boardwalk was lit up with intense lights while high-pitched squeals of delight could be heard coming from the roller coaster ride ahead. Both were difficult to ingest, but he walked on not wanting to stop. He knew that if he were to sit and rest the come down would be more harsh. He intended to ignore it until he could beg for enough money to buy more.

Slowly, Dwayne made his way through the crowds of the boardwalk, strangers handing him loose change and food out of pity. He hadn't showered in days and his hair was matted with dirt and grease. Only ending up with a few dollars, Dwayne slammed his fist into the side of a building hidden behind the shadows so no one could see the pain he was going through. No one except the one that was watching him.
