Against All Odds
Chapter Thirteen:
Friday,I walked over to my
first class period, Homeroom. As I enter the room, I crossed my
path with Jeremy.
I looked at him with sorrow. I tried to smile at him but Jeremy
just walked pass me like I was not in there. Then, he took his
seat at the middle side of the room, next to a sexy, blonde
dudette. I sat at the other end of the room.
This is not happening, I thought to myself as I looked
at the window. What happened to the sweet guy I know? But
it's too late. I don't even paid attention to his sweetness. Even
from his kisses, right from the start. I just took it as it is. I
felt so miserable.
Then, Dave entered the room. He looked cute as usual. I looked at
him, then, he saw me. He also looked away and sat at the empty
chair at the front. I looked at Tracy (sitting at one corner of
the room), who seemed to notice us, but she looked away.
This is soo sad. I told myself. Now, I'm all alone.
I squirmed at my seat. Then, after a few minutes, Mr.Ramirez, our
homeroom adviser entered the room.
"Good morning, class," he smiled. He placed his
suitcase at his desk. There are few mumbles of replies to him.
"Didn't have a good night sleep last night? You know, guys,
you should get a good night sleep. Prom will be few more days
ahead. It will be next week."
"Ow," some replies of our classmates. Just as I
thought. I replied to myself.
"Anyway, class, our topic for today is all about
relationship," Mr. Ramirez continued. He scrawled the word
'relationship' on the board. Then, he looked at us.
"Ok, reality check, guys, are you having a good relationship
with your friends? or others?" Mr. Ramirez asked. The whole
class became quiet.
What is wrong with this guy? I asked myself. As if, he
knows our problem. Of course, I'm not!
"With your family? Are you enjoying it?" Mr. Ramirez
continued. I nodded. It's a good thing I know for one thing I'm
happy about.
"Well, class," Mr. Ramirez said. "This is one
thing I'm gonna tell you. Any relationship, even if it's not
nice, insincere or broken, it needs to be repaired and nurtured
with love, respect and understanding." He told us.
Love, respect and understanding. The words repeated on
my mind. I might need that one of these days.
"Some relationships may not end up very well, it might give
you a pain, but you have to forgive other people, too. Like, for
the wrong things that they've done. You'll never know they didn't
do it on purpose. You might think, 'you're right and they're
wrong'. But have you considered,'they might be right, you might
be wrong?'Just acknowledge the overwhelming power of forgiveness.
It's hard but you have to follow. Pride must be low," Mr.
Ramirez said.
Hmm, Mr. Ramirez had a point.I looked over my head to
Tracy, Dave and Jeremy. I saw Tracy's gaze softened a little.
Then, she bowed her head down. I saw Dave but we only looked at
each other, with pity in our eyes. I looked at Jeremy, he twisted
a little, and I saw a tiny smile forming up his lips.
That's a good sign. I told myself. I might be
forgiven one of these days.
Then the bell rang. The class stood up and picked up their
things.
Mr. Ramirez shouted, "Remember, class, the pain might still
be there but you'll recover somehow. Just try the overwhelming
power of forgiveness and you'll see. Have a nice weekend!"
Then, the class went out of the door.
I stood up to pick up my things but just as then, someone grabbed
my hand. I looked up. It was Tracy. I couldn't move or talk.
"Don't talk, Lizy," Tracy commanded me. "We'll
talk later after classes. Let's meet by the main gate. I'll tell
you everything." Then, Tracy let go of my hand and walked
out of the room.
"Ok," I just mumbled to no one in particular. I just
hope this will turn everything to be all right.
