Keeping It Real
Chapter 6: Smells Like Love

Friday night, Annie, Carol, Liza, Michelle, Bob, Ray and I decided to hook it up at Teen Xpress, the hottest teen night club here in our little town. The club is packed with teens who drink and dance. We get ourselves a little round table for us to sit and drink. The girls decided to dance but I let myself to sit beside Ray.

"So, how's the tour?" Ray asked Bob over the loud music. He wrapped his arm around me.

"It's great!" Bob looked at him as he looked at Ray who take a swig on his canned beer.I don't drink but Ray does a little, but I don't mind.

"Met any interesting girls?"

Bob looked at me as he asked him that. "Yeah!" he just replied. "They're all nice."

"Well, good for you but I'm lucky to have Leigh here beside me," Ray looked at me and kissed me on the lips. His lips tasted like beer. I noticed Bob's eyes popped out big as Ray kissed me.

"Ray," I mumbled and pushed him a little, aware that Bob is looking at us.

"Ok, ok." Ray said. He poured beer on an empty glass and offered it to Bob. "Hey, Bob, my man, have a swig."

I looked at Bob and smiled at him.

"No, thanks," Bob refused. "I don't drink."

"C'mon, man, it's just a little sip. You'll never get drunk with this. Just taste it," Ray still offered.

"No, thanks," Bob refused.

"Oh, c'mon, show us a real good man. Just drink it," Ray placed the glass in front of Bob. Bob took it. He looked at me and he started to drink it... more like gobble it up.

"Whoohoo!" Ray shouted. "That's good! Worth a try, man! Have some more!" He poured the glass.

"Oh, man, that's heavy," Bob replied. I saw his eyes twist. He covered his eyes with his hands.

"Have some more!"

"Ray, please don't push him," I told my boyfriend.

"No, don't mind him. He's a good man. He could handle it," Ray told me.

I slumped back on my seat. I don't know what will Aunt Shiela and Uncle Frank would say to him if he gets home drunk. Bob took another drink.

"Hey," Michelle approached our table. "Don't you, guys, want to dance? The dance floor is pumping up."

Then, to my surprise, Bob stood and grabbed her hand. "C'mon, let's go!" She winked at me and they went to the dance floor. I only looked back at them with a sullen expression on my face.

What's wrong with him? I asked myself as I looked at Bob, who crazily danced with my girlfriends. He's really enjoying himself.

"You like him, do you?" A voice interrupted my thoughts.

Huh? I looked at Ray. "What are you talking about?"

"I said you like him, do you?" He repeated. "I could see it in your eyes."

"Yeah, I mean, I like him coz he's my best friend. I'm just a little worried about him, you know," I replied. I saw the hurt expression on Ray's eyes so I told him. "But you know, someone I really, really like, more like..." LOVE? I can't bare to tell him that.

"Who?" he smiled, his dimples, showing.

"Of course, you, doofus," I laughed and I kissed him on the lips. Ray laughed and kissed me back. His kisses are getting intense. He started to kiss me on my neck. I can feel his warm hand moving upward my skirt.

"Ray, stop," I let his hand down. "Please..." I pleaded him to stop.

"I'm sorry. I got carried away. C'mon, let's just dance," Ray urged me and we both went to the dance floor.

After a number of dances, the girls and Ray decided to chill on our table. So, that left me and Bob, dancing with each other along with the crowd.

"Hey," Bob smiled at me, as we danced. "Nice going, Leigh."

"Yeah, you, too, Bob," I told him as we danced to the beat.

"You hit it off easily with the girls?" I asked him.

"Yeah," he nodded. "You, too, I guess."

"Huh?"

"I mean, Ray's  kisses must be too sweet," Bob looked at me intently. "And you like it."

"What are you talking about?" Did I heard him correctly.

"You know what I'm saying," he continued. "I saw you back there. The two of you making out."

Aargh! I wanted to shout. "So, now you're watching us back there, huh?" I asked suddenly becoming mad.

"Of course, I do, you know that, we always watch for each other, right?" Bob answered with wry expression on his face. "Even before when we were young... We might never know what Ray will do to you."

That did it! Bob offended me, so I stopped dancing and I led myself outside the teen club. I just hope the girls and Ray didn't see me slip outside.

"Hey~" Bob followed behind me. "Leigh, wait!"

"Don't follow me, Bob!" But he kept on walking behind me.

"Leigh, I'm sorry!" he grabbed my arm. I stop on my tracks and didn't care to look at him. "I didn't mean to offend you."

"Well, Bob," I looked at him. "You  don't know what you're talking about. You just have to trust me on this one. I could handle myself now." Tears spilled down my eyes.

"Ok, Ok. I'm sorry, Leigh," Bob apologized. He wiped my tears away. "I take back what I said it's just that... I care for you and I don't want you to be hurt...with him. It's just that..." he became silent. I looked at him.

"Honestly, I've not been laid.Well, have you been laid?" he asked directly.

I laughed. "Stupid question."

"No, really, I want to know. I'm your friend, right? So, tell me," Bob wants to know.

I silently looked down and shook my head. "No..."

"I'm glad to hear that," he hugged me.

"Almost..." I closed my eyes.

"What?" he asked, surprised.

"Well, we almost did..." I said. "But, you know me, believe me, I'm not that type of girl who..."

"Oh, Leigh," Bob just hugged me again. "I'm just glad you're you. I'm just happy to know that..."

I'm getting confused. I don't know what Bob is up to but he suddenly looked concern.

"I love you," he whispered in my ear. It sent tingles down my spine.

"What?" I looked at him. His eyes were closed as he said those three letter words.

He opened his eyes and he started to kiss me softly on the lips. I'm shocked at first, but then again, I kissed him back, too. I placed my arms around him as we kissed. For a moment there, I felt something magical come between us. Not just for friends but for lovers as well. Then, after a moment, we stopped and looked at each other.

What now?

"I mean it, Leigh, I love you," Bob looked at me intently. "I love you for quite so long."

"Bob, I... I..." don't know what to say. I love you, too? I've also kept my feelings for him for quite so long,too.

"Urk~" then, Bob started to puke.

Oh, he's just drunk. I jumped up, disappointed. Great! Just as we were about to reel each other. I'm just glad he didn't puke on my shoes.

Then,  I just rubbed his back. After a few minutes, he was done.

"Thanks," Bob smiled at me. "I'm sorry about that. My head hurts. I swear I'll never take another swig of beer again!"

I laughed. "You'd better." Coz I never knew for sure whether he still remembers what he told me, just minutes ago.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hey, you two, where have you been?" Liza asked us as we approached our table. Ray shot me a look as I sat beside him.
"We just stepped outside for some air," I told them. "And thank God Bob didn't puke on my shoes." I joked.
Bob laughed. "Yeah and I promise not to drink another beer again."
Ray just laughed. "Well, you have to take it easy, man."
"Thanks, but never again," Bob shot his hands up.
Then, Ray put his arms around me again and he tried to kiss me on the lips again. My friends don't seem to mind, it is as if they're munching on some peanuts but I guess they're all watching at the sides of their eyes. I whinced a little as he seem to kiss me coz I'm also aware that Bob is watching.
Ray looked at me that says, 'what's wrong?' but I just looked at my watch and it says 2 o'clock.
"Oh, gosh, it's 2 am already, don't you guys think, it's gettin' late?" I asked as I take a sip on my iced tea. I looked at Bob, who looks sullen.
"Uh, oh, yeah," the girls  looked at their watches. They gathered their bags as we stood, "C'mon, let's go."
Ray looked disappointed but he also gather up himself.
Then, we went out of that teen night club. Thank God this night is over.
