"Is it true?" Liza asked with big, round eyes as we walked down the hall after Homeroom class on Monday morning.
I looked at her quizically.
"You broke up with Ray? You're dreamboat?!" Liza said a little louder that people around us stopped and listened to what she'd just said.
I looked over my shoulders and the people began doing their stuffs again. "Liza, c'mon. Please don't start on me again."
"Well, please, tell me," Liza urged. "I'm freaking out. The girls might have heard by now."
"It's true, ok?" I whispered then, I just walked ahead.
"What?"
"Hey, Leigh," Annie stopped me. "Tell me, I'm not hearing this."
"Oh, no. Not you, too, Annie," I shook my head dramatically. I sighed.
"Well, yeah," Annie replied. "People probably heard the news."
"Well, this girl's not telling us anything on how and why it just happened." Liza rolled her eyes.
"There's nothing to tell," I told them directly. "Ok? Ok, ok, it's a long story."
"Oh, maybe it's another guy," Annie concluded, fixing her shiny hair with her fingers.
"Puh-leez," Liza rolled her eyes. "Not you, too. I heard a lot of stories like that."
Maybe you're right. "Guys, please," I told them.
"Ok, ok, we'll stop," Annie replied. "But whatever your reason for breaking up with the most gorgeous guy in school, this must've been something. It has a reasonable explanation."
Just as then, Ray and his buds crossed their path with us.
"Oh, hi, yo pretty ladies, hi Leigh, how are you doing?" his friend, Roger Maxwell, greeted us. A little crowd stopped to listen.
Liza and Annie giggled a little. I'm planning not to look at Ray but what's the fuss? We're friends now, right? So, I said shyly, "Hi, guys."
"Well, we heard your ex-boyfriend here misses you... a lot," Mattew Jeremy added, patting Ray at the back. "I heard you, guys, almost did it."
I blushed a little. My girl pals looked at me questioningly. How could he? I hope this scene would be over.
"Guys, please," Ray stopped them. Then, Ray look at me."Hi, Leigh. How
are you doing?"
"I'm fine," I replied."How 'bout you?"
"Feeling better," he answered. Then, he smiled a little.
Just as then, I saw Bob at the side of my eyes, passing the corner of the room. He's heading his way to us.
Just my luck. I thought to myself.
"Hey, guys, what's up in here?" Bob asked. "What's the commotion all about?"
"Nothing," Roger replied. "It's just that your best friend and her ex-boyfriend exchange their 'hi's' and 'hello's' to one another."
Bob looked at me with round eyes as if to say, Oh. Is it true? Bob just stood there looking at me.
Just as then, Michelle, together with Carol, approached us, "Ok, people, go back to your senses. Nothing to talk about in here."
Then, the crowd went back to their usual self. Some went back to their lockers, some walked by and picked their stuffs.
"Well, see you around, Leigh," Ray looked at Bob and me. I could see the hurt in his eyes. Then, he and his buds walked by.
"Are you all right, Leigh?" Michelle asked, patting my shoulders.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I told her with a fake smile.
"Oh, don't mind them, they're a bunch of hypocritical jerks,"Michelle encouraged me.
I just nodded. Then, Michelle, urged the girls to go with her. So, that leaves Bob and me behind.
"Are you ok?" Bob looked at me sincerely.
Me? Ok? I don't think so... just the way you look at me makes me go crazy. I thought.
"Leigh, do you wanna talk about it?" Bob shook me on the shoulders.
Duh.
"Leigh, please speak to me," Bob asked.
"Uh, Bob, no, maybe some other time," then I walked behind him through the crowded hall.
"Leigh, wait!" I could only hear him say behind me.
